Florida Keys, Marathon Super Boat International Offshore Races

Super Boat International has added Marathon, in the Florida Keys to their race schedule on Fourth of July weekend, 2015. July 3rd – 5th, SBI and Conch Republic Offshore Powerboat Racing Association will keep the tradition of racing on 4th of July and bring racing back to Marathon, Florida, where Superboats raced for years under and along the famous 7-Mile Bridge.

Marathon has seen a revitalization of hotels, restaurants and 5 start resorts in recent years. The remodeled Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club (Hyatt Place), scheduled to open this December will be the host hotel for the Super Boat Offshore Race. The new Hyatt Place, local hotels and city officials in the area are excited about Super Boat returning to the Florida Keys.

On Saturday, July 4th, off Sombrero Beach Road (MM 50) in Marathon, race fans will be witness to one of the largest and longest running fireworks displays in Florida and the Southeast. Randy Mearns, SBI Course Marshall, has produced the show for 35 years and comments, “it will likely be one the longest fireworks displays that people will experience.” The upbeat, extravagant show is well orchestrated, synced to music and the fireworks display will last for 45 minutes.

Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival, Fort Walton Beach

The dastardly Billy Bowlegs has been seen off t’shores of T’Emerald Coast and rumor is that he'll be plannin’ to dock his ship once t’again at The Fort Walton Beach Landing!. This long-running Fort Walton Beach tradition is in its 60th year, and brings a full weekend of nautical fun to the Landing. Watch Capt. Billy and his Krewe invade the city, while the FWB mayor works hard to protect his fair city and citizens. There’s entertainment, grog and grub aplenty for sailors and landlubbers alike. 

There's plenty for the little scallywags to do, with the kids' area sponsored by PMIPEO Employee Leasing featuring a Rock Climb/Slide Obstacle Course, Euro-Bungee, the Dream Players Theater Group with pirate skits and storytelling, Space Walk of Fort Walton, and a 20' by 30' Misting Tent.

The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber o’ Merchants welcomes landlubbers and swabbys of all ages t’dis jolly family event.

Thursday, June 4th - Pirate Pub Crawl and Festival
Friday, June 5th – Festival and Fireworks
Saturday, June 6th – Festival
Monday, June 8th – Torchlight Parade

As you wander the Pirates Village, enjoying all sorts of grub and grog, be sure to check out the mercantile with glass art, clothing, jewelry, trinkets and more! But keep your eye out for the scallywags wandering about!

Food vendors with everything from ice cream to seafood, to skewered meats and more will fill the air with wonderful aromas and fill your bellies with happiness.
